The Shepherd’s Table
feasting on God’s Word for a life of abundance
Hi! I’m Kelsey!
It’s so good to meet you and I am so glad you stopped by. I am a follower of Jesus, wife to a sheep farmer, and mom to two spunky preteen girls. I am a college professor by day, a children’s ministry leader in the in-between, a fiber artist for fun, and a lifelong lover of learning, reading, and writing. I live with my family and 150 sheep in rural west Kentucky.
A few years ago, the Lord asked me to use my words for His glory. And while it was not my initial desire to write personally and publicly, my life verse has never failed me—”Though one goes along weeping, carrying the bag of seed, he will surely come back with shouts of joy, carrying his sheaves” (Psalm 126:6). I have been walking with the Lord long enough to know that there is fullness of joy on the other side of obedience. So, I write.
Before the sun rises each morning, I sit with my Savior by the front porch window of my family’s farmhouse. There with lukewarm coffee and a looming to-do list, I take a much-needed pause to dine with the King, feast on His Word, and capture the messages that He lays on my heart. I don’t do it perfectly but I hope His heart shines through anyway.
I have been a member of the Proverbs 31 Ministries writing group COMPEL for a few years now, and I have had a couple devotionals published through that platform. What About Her? was published in the Proverbs 31 Ministries book Renew Your Mind: 40 Days To Untangle the Lies Inside Your Head, and one of my devotionals was published on the COMPEL page.
Most recently, COMPEL hosted a book proposal challenge, and after months of following the Lord way past my comfort zone through proposal writing and publishing appointments—I was offered a book contract through Leafwood Publishers! I am currently writing that book, which means my devotional writing will be here and there for the time being, but I have been working on uploading some of my previous work to encourage you and inspire you in the meantime.
I have spent a lot of time in my life “writing under cover”, but the Lord has been calling out this ministry in me more and more every day. After decades of development in secret, the Lord is bringing a good thing to harvest, and I am committed to being obedient, no matter how uncomfortable or awkward it may feel. As a result, I needed a home for my writing, and after intensive prayer, I knew I already had a place to land—the website for our farm, Chadwick Sheep Company.
This page is an extension of our homestead—tucked away from the world and filled with humble but intentional living with Jesus at the center. The name reflects so many things that are important to me…the family we live with, the farm that we live on, the food that we produce and share together, the fellowship that we pursue with others, and the faith that is alive inside of us—all topics that I write about here.
My desire is to encourage you to break bread with Jesus and the community He has placed in your path each day, however clumsily and inadequately, believing that He will honor your fishes and loaves. I have found that Jesus will be there if we just keep showing up, and I hope that this space inspires you to do just that.
